Christmas Hamper Packing

A field trip permission form has been sent home for a walking trip to the Cloverdale Agriplex to pack Christmas Hampers.  These forms are due back by Friday, and the field trip will take place on Thursday, December 14th, between 10:15 and 11:30.  Please check the box at the bottom of the form if you are able to walk with us and help supervise.  It should be a great experience in giving of our time to help others during the holiday season.  Please see the permission form for further information.

In addition to packing hampers, each class at C.C.S will also be collecting hamper items.  Cards have been sent home with assigned items for each student to contribute.  All hamper items should be sent in to your child's classroom by December 15th.  Thank you!

Bazaar Jars

Precious Blood’s Annual Parish Bazaar
Saturday, November 25th
9 am to 2 pm

We are all very excited that our parish bazaar is coming up in less than two weeks!

One of the favorite games at the bazaar is the Jar Game.  All students are encouraged to fill a jar with candy, treats, stickers, toys, etc., decorate it and return it to school.   At the bazaar, the children will then be able to win these jars. The class that brings in the most jars will win a pizza party!!!

All jars will need to be dropped off in the classrooms by Friday, Nov. 24th.  Thank you!

Abbey Trip

We have just barely managed to find enough seats for all of our students, and so we will be able to go on the trip to the Abbey in Mission on Friday.  We will be leaving right after Mass and a quick snack, and returning by the end of the day (traffic permitting).  Students should come in school uniform and wear a warm coat and comfortable shoes, as it is supposed to be very cold and we will be spending some time outdoors.  Students must also bring a disposable bag lunch.  If you have volunteered as a parent driver, please meet us just outside the doors (playground side) at 10:15 so we can get into driving groups.  We will be returning to school by 3:00, traffic permitting.  If you have other children in the school, you may want to have a back-up plan for how they will be picked up, just in case we are delayed by traffic.  I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday.

All Saints Dress-Up Day & the Abbey Trip

Just a quick reminder that it is All Saints Dress-Up Day at CCS on Wednesday.  If you need ideas, here are a couple links with some creative costumes examples:

Ideas for Boys' Saint Costumes

Also, as of this morning, we still need drivers for about half of the class if we are going to be able to attend the trip to the Abbey this Friday.  Please send me an e-mail by the end of the day today (letting me know how many children you would be able to drive) if you haven't already replied and will be able to drive and supervise a group of students on Friday.  Thank you!

Abbey Trip

Grade 4L is looking for parent driver volunteers for a possible trip to the Abbey in Mission.  The plan is to make our trip on Friday, November 3rd, leaving after Mass and returning by the end of the school day.  If we can get enough parent volunteer drivers (who have their criminal record check completed) by Monday, we will confirm the field trip and send out permission forms.  However, if we are not able to find enough parent drivers by Monday, we will not be able to attend at this time.  Please let me know if you are available to drive and supervise on our Abbey trip next Friday, as well as noting the number of children you would be able to transport.  Thank you!

FSA Test

Over the next couple weeks (October 23 - Novemeber 3) our grade four students will be writing the Foundation Skills Assessment Test. This is a government exam administered to all grade four and grade seven students in BC.  During the coming weeks we will be completing the five test sections on reading comprehension, writing, and mathematics. It is important to note the FSA is just a snapshot of where your child is now in their learning. The outcome of the FSA test will in no way affect your child’s report card mark. Results of the FSA test will be sent home with your child once all marks are received.

In preparation for the FSA test, it is important that your child be rested and ready to put their best effort into their work. A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast would be beneficial to your child and enable them to perform to the best of their abilities.

If possible, it is best your child does not miss any days during the next weeks, to avoid having to catch up on several sections in a short amount of time.

Please help your child understand that there is no need to worry about the writing of the FSA test.  Encourage them to just do their best, and remind them that they should simply show what they know and be proud of their work.

New School Year

Welcome back!

Just a few updates and important pieces of information to start the school year.

Students have been asked to bring a new kleenex box to school for our classroom supply.  This can be sent with them any day this week.

On Thursday, September 7th we will be having our Back to School BBQ and Meet the Staff event.
This will begin in the gym at 5:30 with a meeting and information on the new school year.  Following the meeting we will be enjoying a free BBQ out in front of the school.  At 7:00 the first information session in your child's classroom will begin, followed by a repeat session at 7:15 for all who missed the first one.  An information package about Grade 4L (timetable, PE schedule, homework policy, etc.) will be handed out at these sessions.  If you are unable to attend the sessions, the information package will be sent home with your child on Friday.  I look forward to seeing you all there!
